I wish the color of my skin was a blessing in society's eyes.
Just because I'm not freak'n pale.
Maybe, if I was darker I would get more hate.
I don't know much about football.
The reflection in the pond
of the five flowers that bloomed on the bank
displayed like towers to my floor level frame.
Surrounded by the dirt and decomposed,
and the water swamping my sorrowed leaves
In front of you
Are two books.
One battered and old,
The other new and untouched.
The new is simple, easy.
You haven't had any hardships
Trying to read it, interpret it.
Lagoon.
Clear like glass cup
Uncovered by sunlight.
No greenhouse gases are emitted.
Lagoon.
Just like Father,
With strength in my shoulders,
Compassion in my veins,
Others in my thoughts,
I am one-track-minded.
Just like Mother,
With determination painted on my face,
To all my friends,
I am quite jealous.
To all my enemies,
I am quite jealous.
For you, in contrast of me,
have a "best" friend you see,
who seems to make you quite zealous.
When I look into the night filled sky
I see not stars but, rather, complete and utter darkness
Fore all of the millions of star are to be found in your eyes
The Seas
And the Skies
The color
In his eyes
Your hue makes me warm
You’re a thunderstorm
He holds the moon dear
"You must do well."
But why?
"You have to.
You have to fight, you have to climb, no matter how rusted the latter is.
"You have to do better than me."
"You have to outshine the others."
Wispy clouds sweep across the vast ocean above
Grass whispers the heartbeat of the tide
Rolling gently out and back again
Feathered fish dart into cloud-waves
And you wish flying were so easy
McDonald's
Always open
Always serving
Always there
Just existing
McDonald's is the kid who never left home
Grew up here
Made a name for itself
And never found a reason to leave
I once heard of two men who were deferred from hope.
They stood and stood by a tree and never stopped.
They hoped for someone to come that never came.
I once heard of a man who had his hope deferred.
At first, I thought I was a mix of my sisters.
They were complete opposites:
One was cautious, one was reckless.
One did well in school, the other struggled.
One was popular, the other had few friends.
A pale white mask sits all alone
Waiting to be put on and waiting to be shown.
Hidden behind it is an identity unknown
The flaws and imperfections everyone loathes.
Mirror mirror on the wall, who's the brightest star?
Who has the talent and looks to win it all?
I just woke up, my hairs a stickn mess
With a flip of da wrist, I'm bringing sexy back
Its 0 degrees outside, my cars still warm
I parked in a garage, eat that
Running late to school, teachers late
It took me years to realize that I’m more than just a comparison,A comparison to a magazine cover, to a GPA, to a friend or to a sibling.I’m not you, I’m not him, I’m not her… I’m me. I’m just me.And I, am flawless.
When you were little, you were small.
Everyone was.
When you were little, no one cared about the size of your jeans,
Just the size of your dollhouse and the shape of your backyard
Being impeccable is over-rated,
unattainable, impossible, and even outdated.
I prefer my goofy smile,
and my spontaneous, overbearingly hectic lifestyle,
over that of a life monotonous with perfection.
To be brought and to age
in a world of masks
To be raised and trained
to forge my own
To be afraid to be without it
At the end of the day
I'm still me
I have feet that graze the ground with each step I take.
Legs so powerful that carry my weight
and knees that allow them to bend.
I have a stomach that supports the innermost parts of me
I am flawlessly flawed and that’s why I’m awed
to be in this world created by God.
Every hair on my head, even the ones still messy from bed,
Are exactly where he meant them to be.
I'm just another colored kid living in the suburbs. Picket fences all around, all painted my neighbors color.
You are not invisible
not in any way, shape, or form.
I know you see things differently.
you dont have a "set in stone" way of thinking.
You think of evrything, possibly, too often.
From today until tomorrow, years later to forever
I want to make an impact that would change the world
There are moments when we see the violence coming and no one is in sight to stop it
A 17 year old child applying for college,
built for success, wisdom, and knowledge.
A plethora of information has been deposited into him,
But due to his black skin many have trained him on a whim.
I read the words that others wrote
And feel like pepper repelled by soap
How dare I float in their water
My words by theirs can only falter
Yet I cannot stop my pen from moving
Look at her, look at me;
its gold, versus silver,
the sun against the moon.
Where she shines, I am dim;
saught after, and alone,
the Beauty and the Beast.
The current that runs through the system like a live wire,
and the electricity buzzing only burns me.
Two loving parents,
two low paying jobs,
one bad economy,
three children,
LoveThe largest ocean in the seaAnd the deadliestFor it has no islandNo escapeFor you will become blindFrom all the sharksPulling your leg like no tomorrowOnly gazing at the breath
She traces the eyes of Teddy, taking in the glassiness ofthem, I take in the ocean depth of your eyes, breathing in all the swirls and zigzags and specks of orange.
We were holding handsYou were looking at meThe way boys always doWhen they want something moreI got up and walked awayI just wanted spaceWe were on a couch in a clothing store
These words I write
Are Born from me,
I’ve given them more
Than just a sound,
I’ve given them Life,
An opportunity to Impress.
It’s passion turns to heart
and logic into mind.
Praying mute prayers;
Prayers of which God refuses to hear.
Speaking life yet swallowing death whole.
Hell's Angel.
Not in JET yet a true beauty.
Not disfigured but with a figure that's crippling.
It is a filthy charge
for the igniting of our tars
papaya lips taste like
lime
salt
and chilies
parted in popular positions
they speak like a ring master artist
I cannot draw to save my life,Nor paint nor sculpt nor color;I cannot build inspired domes,Nor compose a simple measure.
Life like a blur
Never stop to look around
Life like a game
Always constant enjoyment
Life like a baby
Being given opportunities
Life like a flashlight
Always shining and upbeat
