Hiding Behind a Mask

A pale white mask sits all alone
Waiting to be put on and waiting to be shown.
Hidden behind it is an identity unknown
The flaws and imperfections everyone loathes.

Who's hiding and why?
Everyone trying to meet society's eye?
But me, proud to say, I don't need to hide
Just wait and listen to my side.

I am unique, one of a kind
I wear soccer shorts and can't say I mind
With my hair tied up and athletic shoes
I act as myself and I'm comfortable too.

This mask everyone thinks is safe
Laughs and mocks right in my face.
I don't need it to hide me
Because I want everyone to see.

All these people in magazines
Are as fake as anyone can be.
Take that mask and hold it tight
Place it on the table late at night.
Mock and stare it does alright.
Take a hammer and hold it tight
Swing away with all your might
and brake that mask at its height.

Shatter it into a million pieces
And make sure that it ceases.
Fall one by one, the memories do
So they no longer have control of you.

A pale white mask sat all alone
Where it waited to be put on and waited to be shown.
Hidden behind it was an identity unknown
The flaws and imperfections everyone loathed.

Now no one's hiding and it's not hard to see why
Just being yourself against society's eye.
We took the hammer and held it tight
Braking the mask at its height.

We are who we are
Because hiding ourselves is bizarre.
There's no need to hide
When we got love from who we decide.

Take that mask and hold it tight
Take the hammer and in mid flight,
Swing away with all your might
And brake the mask at its height.
