Adulting
Adult is a four letter word.
It’s more dangerous than others
Because it denotes segregation
Between the old and young,
On the day my little brother begins to see race.
I'd like to think he will be ready for the talk I'll give him.
I'd like to think he will be ready to carry the weight of all the self-love I will place onto his shoulders.
America the Great,
America the White,
A motherland ran in spite.
Freedom upon freedom offered to those
Of which the ignorant few had chose.
Star-spangled blessings for those who live in hate,
Wake up!
Rise above hatred and become unique!
Make a difference by stopping the racism!
Let me tell you about a young African-American girl stopping her fellow white classmates from being racist to her.
We've been fighting for equality for hundreds of years
My ancestors had to shed blood , sweat & tears for me to be here.
The paths for others was clear but ours had a lot of debris,
I dream that the country I live in will love me
Like I have loved it.
I am grateful
But how has my country, which I left everything behind for been grateful back
By fitting me into a group, calling me a rapist
Immigration… I can barely begin to talk about it Immigration is a hot topic in the news these daysTrump says kick the foreigner outKeep the American paidBut the foreigners paved the wayYou see without my people There wouldn’t be what is todayBut
I grew up in the suburbs
Always being told that I was different
I grew up in the suburbs
Always being told ways to change
I grew up in the suburbs
The opposition comes across the field
In many shapes and sizes
But the difficult part about opposition
To realize is
That a lot of the opposition I cannot see
Is coming to attack from behind me.
Everyday is a living day
As i see people come and go by
For some people is tragedy
For some others is heaven
Twenty-two seven,
Wandering in the streets
Writing my life on these sheets
Life is sometimes rough
but everything happens for a reason
always make sure to be yourself
Open your mind and your imagination
strive to be better than the norm
strive to be different and make a difference
Life is sometimes rough
but everything happens for a reason
always make sure to be yourself
Open your mind and your imagination
strive to be better than the norm
strive to be different and make a difference
A few streets down
away from this perfected outer shell of blissful indulgence that we have created
lies
a city of
distorted faces,
starvation,
violence.
The world is not a nice placeBut not always at equal paceThe world likes to fight and raceBut it also likes to segregateThe World wants a change
I am an African, an African
taken from my homeland and
brought into a place where I am known as
being "inferior" Why was this happening?
Do I not shed blood and cry as any other
The world would be a much better place if we were all color blind
If people thought with their hearts instead of their eyes
If just because of who we are didn't make us an "other"
I was told I was Colored at seven years old.
A white girl's mama told her so...and she explained to me,
"Now you see", as she held my arm, "your skin is brown."
You enter a town where there's only two colorsWhite and Black; who do not even love each otherWhite folks side and Black folks sideYes, that's what they call itWhen one thought the segregation had diedIt took a few to restart itYou enter a town wi
(poems go here) Liberal, conservative
Left-Wing, Right-Wing
Democrat, Republican
Politicians have made their career of public service
into an unjustified disservice
through decisions that have been delayed
or have still to be made
for we are the center of a joke
that has made us broke
There is a man whose tongue is always aflutter,
Off his lips, his words drip like warm melted butter,
The masses cannot resist,
Such awesome, wonderful things he does insist,
Today the man takes the stage,
BOOM!
Goes the sound of a bus backfiring
As it leaves a stop with no passengers
Once again
The bus driver silently laments to himself
And hopes the boycott will be over.
You have the right to remain silent. More like the reason to stay silent actually.
Anything you say or are can be and will be used in not only a court of law, but throughout your entire life.
(poems go here) Sitting in class with a cluster of students around me. I feel as I'm in my own little home called...my mind. This is where I'm safe, where I find my answer's to the reason why you hate me so much.
I take
another short breath,
preparing for my death
sentence.
My fingers grasp the door,
anxious, cold,
and black.
Through the
glass window I see
eyes that match
Defend, don’t end
Stand up, not down
Persevere, don’t fear
That’s all us colored folks can adhere
Liberty and justice
Y’all sure that’s for all?
We colored folk don’t have justice and that isn’t all
She's had a long day at work and so
she decides to sit in the first row
unbeknownst to her 5 blocks away await
more whites to get on the bus through the wide gate
she looks and sees there's no more seats
I had a dream last night that turned into a nightmare,I woke up still asleep and walked to school full of fear. The kids gave me weird looks and I didn't know why,
