A Happiness that Could Be Illegal

Mon, 02/03/2020 - 02:10 -- Halah

For once I’m actually happy

Despite all the shit that happens,

She makes my day better

It doesn’t matter if my parents don’t “agree” with it

My dad and I butt heads all the time

Although if my grandma knew, she’d probably keel over

At least that’s what my mom says.

And when high-up officials call this happiness “devil’s work”

Or use their Book to hate us

We drown them out, and hold our hands high, because

We will not be silenced.

I have been happier than I have been in forever;

She and I can talk about whatever, but at the end of the day

When we’re together, her dark eyes look at mine

And tell me “I love you”

And I know everything will be ok.
