I love poetry for its blank spaces,

for its constant wondering

and the shape of the words on a page.

For different reasons

than why I love math.

In poetry, people talk about things in the universe

and say that it can’t be explained or described.

But they haven’t yet introduced math to it.

Science is philosophy with an answer,

math is the tongue of the universe,

and physics is the ode to all that is, was, or ever will be.

Languages evolve to fit our needs but numbers

are rigid enough to force us

to bend to their will.

If the math says

that the earth is on fire

and the humans are dying,

no amount

of English ‘No-s’

will change that.

You won’t be able to get through life

with you hands over your ears,

and words can

lie

and smother

and twist,

but calculations

either

are

or

aren’t

and they have no ulterior motivations.

Listen to the parts of the universe that speak a language you don’t;

a language that can make or break your existence.
