School Never Saved Me

I went to school, I did my work.
I tried and I learned everything I was supposed to.
Now, here I am, in the real world.
I'll be the first to tell you, I have no idea what to do.

I can't balence my checkbook, I've never seen it done before.
But that's okay, because I can tell you that eight is the square root of sixty-four.
I have no idea how to buy a house, or where I should or when.
But I can write a five paragraph essay from the perspective of a pen.

I can tell you all about the Aztecs, and all about World War II.
I can tell you about hydrogen and why ice floats in water.
I can tell you how to spell onamonapia, and what that word means.
And all about the real world, just not what to do.

I'm grateful school is avalible, and those who learned, great for you.
But here I am, lonely and scared, and with no idea what I need.
That's because the real world I was taught about,
Isn't one where you have to worry about having kids to feed.

I wasn't taught how to enroll my kids in school,
Only not to have them, and why not to have them.
I had to focus less on what I needed, and more on what was cool.
And that's why I'm here to say, fuck the real life I was taught about.

Why don't we try teaching kids how to survive?
