Exhale

Tue, 12/06/2016 - 00:06 -- jxxh

Smoke cascades like soft grey velvet,

past cracked lips that slowly release the worries of the world,

Kill yourself a little bit every day,

because that's better than living long enough to think about you,

Reliving conversations of the past,

wishing you had the right words to say what was on your mind,

Each cigarette brings you further from your nightmares of your last lover,

you don't want to think of his onyx eyes,

Thinking of the little quip of laughter that made you fall in love with him,

surely will not help you fall out,

Your brain is wired to think of him as a knight in shining armour,

but when you are close to him he is just the night,

Do not think of him, when you wake up in the middle of the night,

for you will not know of sleep until the wee hours of the morning,

Ask her why she smokes a cigarette,

why when one is handed to her through slim fingertips she does not deny,

Even when told not to she always does,

because one inhale of toxins,

helps her forget about you.
