Come Out, Come Out

Welcome to the Closet.

Here you will discover the many wonderful things I cherish.

On multicolored hangers, an array of shirts and dresses are organized by

clothing type.

On the carpet floor, you will spot closed boxes that are home to

items I never had a chance to unpack.

There are paintings, there are toys, and there is Me.

Yes, I am a part of the Closet.

Or, more accurately, the Closet is one of the grandest parts of Me.

My mind’s eye shows it to be colorful and full of lovely things;

it almost homes too much room!

There’s a flag in one part of the Closet,

and, on the inside of the door, there’s a painting of the world.

I’m free to be myself when I am bundled up inside.

Not a single person, nor stress, nor negativity will graze across my mind.

The most extravagant safe space known.

Welcome to the Closet!

Welcome Home.

I’ve been cozy in here, the past couple years.

As I mentioned, it is the most extravagant safe space known.

Plenty of room is left on the inside- it is not tight quarters.

I’ve always felt at home in here;

however, one negative thought brought down a single tear.

Why am I hiding? What is there to fear?

That’s when a million different insecurities

called out like a greedy auctioneer.

The world was wrapped around a Homophobic’s finger.

It was not certain how many I would lose,

and how many I would keep.

The war cries sounded in my head.

For months that went on years,

I underwent my own personal cival war.

Come out, come out, wherever you are..

I reached out towards the doorknob,

caution guiding my fingertips.

The world proved itself most accepting, and emotions flooded over Me.

The fantastic Closet, I realized, had not been that grand.

Behind the door, I fell in love.

Not only did a girl steal my heart,

but the rest of the world caught Me in open arms.

Goodbye to the Closet.

Welcome to your true Home.
