The Change

I saw you today.
You sat there and laughed.
I was near certain
That I was going mad.
I watched you sit there,
With a laugh and a smile.
I nearly started crying.
Haven't seen them in a while.
We joked and we talked
And I thought for sure,
That while you were gone,
You'd found your own cure.
A cure to the pain,
To the anger and strife,
That you have been fighting
For most of your life.
But no cure was found.
Instead, a distraction
Had called your attention
And changed your reaction.
From sadness to Joy,
From longing to gain.
You found something else
To chase away your pain.
