o say, can you see the walls rising to isolate us?
by the light of missiles and violence. the problems will turn to ash, ash, ash.
poisoning ash, killing our earth.
what so proudly we hailed as a great change for America.
I'm like a cardboard box...
My edges are creased,
I seem to be put together,
But I'm not.
If I'm left in the rain I fall apart,
That is what happens when I hold so much inside,
High-five!
Five o'clock news
Five best friends
Five...
The fifth month
The month that six best friends became...
Five
This is Kiersten's month--
Her life ended this month.
My bones were feeble
My breath had weathered
My voice can be heard as a bare, cracked whisper
And I listen at how fragile we are...
For which my lungs, they were thirsty for air
To those who are broken
Whose hearts have not mended
Keep this thought on your mind
Your lives have not ended.
While the hurt and the grief
Will bear down like a weight
Know that there is relief
Everyday
Same time
Your front door creaks, did you notice?
Mine does, too.
10:30 AM, you walk out of your apartment-
The one right across the hall from mine-
And I make sure I walk out, too.
With our flags, banners, and voices,
We march.
With tired bodies, overworked minds, and children in our arms,
We march.
For our daughters, granddaughters, and future generations,
We march.
Words, just words a man speaks,
but they cradle me in wonder.
Maybe if I wait a little longer
and I march a little stronger
