To Write is to Breathe Again
words scribbled across the page in an desparate manner
as if the writer might just burst if they can’t release this
display of a broken heart.
a melody sings its song to a crowd of invisible listeners
mournfully, the notes crawl on its knees across the paper.
gasps of breath slowly return to rhythmic breathing.
her heart aches just a little less
now, that it is spread across a novel about its worst fears that came true.
the truth
is what
teaches us, little by little
how to breathe again.
