Even though the topic of sex makes me feel uncomfortable,

there is a problem that needs to be addressed.

For years in school, they teach us about sex between a man and a woman,

and all of the different types of diseases that come with it

(sometimes too grossly-detailed). It goes something like this:

Sex is a very intimate concept, but there are many diseases you don’t want...

The best way to avoid them is to not have sex at all. “But,” they say,

”if you ARE going to have sex then make sure you stay safe! Use condoms!”

This and the long lecture about the various diseases

(featuring pictures you’ll never want to see in your entire life ever again)

is a summary of what schools teach you about sexual education.

So a man and woman having sex should use a condom, that’s great information,

but something is missing... Where is the LGBTQ+ community?

What about the kids and young adults who have questions because they don’t

feel attraction to the opposite gender? As years go on, they begin to feel

more uncomfortable for having these unanswered questions because

you are oppressing them. They get older and feel ostracized and are told that

their version of “sex” is not sex. By not teaching the same concept of sexual

education to ALL people, the oppression continues. In all of my years of schooling,

I was still not taught about sex between a woman and a woman or a man and a man.

How is the LGBTQ+ community supposed to stay safe?

Is this an implication that safe sex isn’t needed for ALL people?

Why is it that schools have still not intigrated ALL people to their teaching system?

Sex education is necessary. All human beings deserve to be informed.

Make teaching sexual education about LGBTQ+ the norm.
