Torment
A heart can be corrupted,
Suffocating under the malicious hand of darkness,
Its armor chipped away piece by piece
By the thoughts that torment our souls,
Until there is nothing but exposed emotions
Bleeding out into an empty void,
Leaving a hollow shell in their wake.
Darkness scuttles inside the vacant heart,
Mutating it into an icy, ebony citadel.
The blood that once flowed in crimson rivers
Turns into a thick, black tar.
The tar flows throughout the body
Infecting every frontier of the anatomy.
The only light that remains
Is imprisoned inside the reinforced walls of the heart.
It refuses to give into corruption
Determined to escape its lurid prison.
Escape the infinite darkness that resides within us.
A heart can’t be corrupted.
