Take me away
Colors take me away
Sweep me up in a flourish of pigment
A swarm of hues and shades
Come to rest within my head
The colors take me away
Consumed in a rush
Under the glow of flickering neon
The crowd flailing frantically to the rhythmic droning
She stands poised before me
Cherry lips staining her glass
Her piercing eyes
Inspecting my soul
Her intense stare
Just a ploy to pull me into her trap
But I can feel the music in my chest
Drowning all the doubt
As her fire tipped fingers
Drag me toward the dance floor
Colors take me away
Sweep me up in a flourish of pigment
A swarm of hues and shades
Come to rest within my head
The colors take me away
An ornate and gilded sky
Creating a symphony of warmth
Serenading the sun in farewell
The warm breeze floats lazily through rows upon rows of trees
Carrying the sweet scent of citrus
Towards the quaint little porch where I sit
The fading sunlight turning rough wood gold
As I rock back and forth upon my chair
The worn boards beneath me creek softly
Singing gently under my feet
Colors take me away
Sweep me up in a flourish of pigment
A swarm of hues and shades
Come to rest within my head
The colors take me away
Sunshine pours over my face
The delicate touch of sunflowers as I brush past
Bright but peaceful noise fills my ears
Birds singing back and forth to one another
The sharp thrill of crickets, hidden in the tall grass
The glass in my hand jingles quietly
Reminding my absent mind that it exists
I raise the glass to my lips
The crisp contrast of the chilled contents
Tugging me gently back to reality
Liquid flows over my tongue
Waves of sour and sweet buzzing through my mouth
I let my eyes close
And admire the soothing sensation of the sunlight resting upon my face
Colors take me away
Sweep me up in a flourish of pigment
A swarm of hues and shades
Come to rest within my head
The colors take me away
Shards of light dance on the dirt beneath my feet
Piercing the thick canopy towering above me
Trees stretching their limbs
In silent praise for the sun
Birds congregate among the branches
Their choir of calls ringing out
Squirrels bounce through a maze of ferns
Their gentle rustling blending into the murmurs of a stream
Where worn rocks create the skyline
Of a metropolis of moss
The culmination of so much life
Somehow remarkably calming
The sharp scent of evergreens
Settling among aromas of the creek
The sun's final moments are waning
Deep dusk settling upon the earth
As if it was a blanket, whispering goodnight
Lazy waves stumble towards shore
Murmuring a soft shhhhhhhh
Hushing the world around it
In such silence my mind seems to sink
Floating away from me
Carried by the lulling current
Lured by the salty scent
I let it go
I will return eventually
When it understands that the tides are not reaching for me
That the waves are not calling for me
Their ebb and flow
Only a beautiful coincidence of the universe
Colors take me away
Sweep me up in a flourish of pigment
A swarm of hues and shades
Come to rest within my head
The colors take me away
Drowsy morning skies
Painted in pastels
My fuzzy best friend lies at my feet
His soft and rhythmic snoring
Intertwining itself with my own breath
A gentle breeze winds through my open window
Almost as if the whole world is stretching, yawning
Birds begin to sing their good morning melody
As the sky bleeds from sunrise towards day
My skin tingles as the warmth radiating from under my blanket
Confronts the crisp springtime air
The soft scent of lavender
Wafting in and out
As the world begins to awaken
Colors take me away
