Prom Night

Lights pulsating wildly

Floor vibrating violently through feet

Chiffon and tulle swirling in brilliant pinwheels of color,

Green

Blue

Red

Purple

Indigo

Violet

Yellow

Maroon…

They gather around the music like moths to flame

Heels scattered on the floor, forgotten for the time being

Mascara runs, curls tumble over shoulders

The air thick and suffocating

All together intoxicating

All the same

The center of the mass wriggles as if they were a bucket of worms

No longer individuals but one species with one thought

All have become slaves to the feeling in their feet

The pound of the bass in their ears

All have come for this momentous occasion

The pounding stops

A new sound begins

The light thud, thud of many hearts

Waiting.

Praying.

For the name they wish to be bestowed to them

The chance to have the title of ruler over this little kingdom we call High School.
