Nightlife
Sitting at the edge of the warm, welcoming bed
Watch the shadows creep their way under to door.
Those fearful eyes, latching at their nonexistent movement
The dark has an unexplainable power,
The power to cause illogical fear in the plainness of events.
The old boiler on this last leg under the floorboard,
Turns into howls of men with carrion seeping from their bones,
The power that causes my eyes to become unreliable
The valuables my hold dear turn to hideous creatures thirsting for my blood.
Shadows hang to the walls, whispering secrets to my ear
This was the moment
The moment that flipped the switch
From Child to Adult
Realizing that the monsters aren’t only in the dark
They could survive the light of day
And I felt at ease with the fact
That’s what growing up is all about.
