Darkness cages, while canvas white
is his only light as he avoids traces
of human life. He ignores splattered paint, dripping
brushes, and sickening scent of mildew and waste.

Focused on his canvas, splashing
color bleeds down white. Thrashing
fingers unlock memories: deep water, hair
beneath the surface, and crystal eyes last goodbye.

Memories pound until the masterpiece
is finished and bears the haze of distant
consciousness. His lips curve into a smile.

Perfection.
