The Light Doesn't Sting
Embark on a journey to nowhere
and find it easily.
Now look up the side of a mountain and be blinded
"Rage Rage against the dying of the light"-Dylan Thomas.
I covered my eyes and was brought to a familiar dark sky.
I can smell the smoke.
I can hear his breathe
I uncover my eyes but still see darkness
"Your eyes follow me from every shadow, every loud noise, crowding the edges
of my memory. I still wake up."- Amber Koneval.
I let out my breath and a choir sings songs no one wants to hear
All the notes are off key and all the plates shake under my melting feet.
But I feel something.
"A poem starts begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness,
a lovesickness"- Robert Frost
A rope tied to a tree has rotten off
A bird trapped in the snow has ruffled its feathers
I can see an unfamiliar sky.
"Hope is not a momentary flicker. Hope is Eternity's slow , steady, Illumnating
light"- Sri Chinmoy
My hands will wear the scars of falling and my heart will provide
the healing
But when I get the light
I will tap the microphone
and hear the snaps like soft rain of a Sunday, saying
"You are okay"
