Invisible Enemies

Dear _______,

I won’t give you a name.

You know who you are

And I know, too.

I’m trying to forget.

I’m trying to let go of the

Little obstacles I’ve been through.

All of the crooked thoughts,

The fears squeezing the air

From my chest.

The warped images,

The fantastic nightmares.

You thought you knew best.

But the black and the blue

Were nothing compared

To the numb gray.

The silent hesitation

And the screaming denial

Growing every day.

You thought you’d win.

How couldn’t you,

Being as strong as you are?

What you forgot,

What I forgot,

Was that, no matter who you are,

I am resilient,

I am me,

And I have broken free.
