Growing Beyond My Roots

Location

While she sought an escape,

Narcotics became her answer;

So I had to drape

My comfort over her.

We switched our roles

And I claimed as the mother,

But this took a toll

On our relationship with one another.

We sadly concerted,

Until others forced a space;

I felt so deserted,

With tears down my face.

But I wouldn’t let it affect me

And who I’ll grow to be;

Because I love my family

But my future is key.

Some may dwell on their history

And keep them from progressing;

But I am not a memory;

And it was all a blessing.
