Friend

Grim figure beside

My Death Bed

I don't fear you, come closer

Why fear the inevitable?

Why fear the fate of every living thing?

I knew my time

Was coming to a close

At least I have someone to keep

Me company

"One door closes

And

Other opens"

They say

You’re lonely as well I see

All I’ve loved is gone

I know how you feel

That look in your eyes

Those empty sockets can still give off

Sadness and loneliness

Even Death needs a drinking buddy

You’ve silently been following me

On these last few miles, right?

Haha,

I’ve must’ve been a terrible companion

I haven’t contributed to the conversation at all

If I was aware, I would've told you a joke at least

To help pass the time

I want to ask what lies beyond but I fear that will ruin the surprise.

Thank you, Death.

My mortality has always been something I enjoy thinking about. How at any moment my life could come to an end. The afterlife as well is also an interesting topic, and even though I'm not religious, I enjoy thinking of death as an actual person who probably needs a break from his job every now and then. It might not have to deal with any sort of hot topic currently but I believe people need to know that Death isn't something to fear. It is part of fate, everything must have an end as well as a beginning.
