It's red, staining the ground someplce I've never been
and never will go.
It's a sacrifice, a total giving of life
So I can keep mine.
I can breathe
I can breathe without someone counting it, deciding I've had one too many.
I can learn. A bird rising above the trees, wings unclipped.
The future is open.
And it isn't becuase of me.
I haven't done anything ecexpt be born into a country that you have made free.
It isn't my blood.
It isn't my eyes that are watching rockets tear apart the night sky.
And yet, someday I might have to take your place.
Becuase freedom isn't something that is passed down.
The fight doesn't end when you are gone.
It becomes mine.
Freedom is red, staining the ground someplace I've never been and never will go.
Freedom starts with me.
