Forgotten Graves

Oh, say can you see by the dawn’s early light

People born to privilege deciding what is right.

By the cop lights’ red glare, guns bursting through the air

Gave proof through the night, that inequality is still there.

Safe in my bed I lay, crying for the hearts I have not met

Soon will come the day when my friends will no longer sweat.

Oh say does that star spangle banner offer any protection

From white men’s need for interjection.

As a person born with a pale advantage I apologize

For allowing this country to succumb to an illegitimate enterprise.

America has never known what it is to be free

To say so would be fraudulent of me.

A country built on forgotten graves

Could never be the land of the free and the home of the brave.
