Für Elise

She is a girl.
Living off the sustenance of guys' attentions.
She is hurling around
at a million miles an hour.
Out of control.
But she needs it,
you see.
If she slows or stops,
she might remember
what she has left behind.

Notice me! She cries,
Help me!
To a man that left long ago.

She doesn't understand,
she's better off without him.
But she craves his attention,
searching for it everywhere.
She might momentarily forget,
her appetite quenched by another.
But it never lasts.

It is then that she glances behind her,
only to find that those who cared,
are long gone,
moved on.
To someone who might still be saved.
