Emerald Eyes
Life was coming to see you on weekends
When nights turned into dew drops on your car
When the sun seemed to rise before we had the chance to say goodbye to the moon.
I miss the days of aimless wandering
Careless joking and eating whatever we wanted
We did not learn to love ourselves,
But we loved each other regardless
As if somehow that was enough
As if somehow that made us enough
Realizing that time is moving faster than our memories.
That the universe is always pushing people apart
That sometimes it’s easier to let it
But that easier doesn’t always mean better
And I know that I’m better off with you
That life is always better with you in it
That adventures are not as fun when we don’t share them
So though I know there are storm clouds in both our brains
That darkness doesn’t just come at night,
And that memories can be just as painful as experiences,
I will stir up these storm clouds
Let the rain fall and blow away with the breeze of a new season
For the sun is always just beyond the horizon.
And today is a new day.
