Common Soldier's Battle

The cries of war surround

common soldier

as the men rush onward

in excitement and yell

But the opposition is fierce

and men fall fast

as straight as arrows

Common soldier obeys

orders to seek shelter

and return fire

and hears the cacophony

of fallen men's

expressive groans

as bullets whistle

and rain from the sky

When the battle is lost

common soldier returns

to the field and is sickened

by what he finds:

Countless men dead and

many others wounded,

some of whom will later

meet their maker

Common soldier is never

curious to see a

battle again.
