Burnt ochre only

Location

Perhaps I will purchase new glasses
And frame my darkened lamps anew
And auspiciously. Here I might beseech,
Behold, and betoken another looking-glass self;
Here enkindle and focus new knowledge
As easily as novel and malevolent lusts,
Heretofore unforeseen insofar
As I have been concerned.

May it not be to me as I have deserved;
For I have merited dim light and dour vision,
The wan sepia tones and burnt ochre only
Of a world trying hard to be colorful,
Yet a world I durst not abandon,
Durst not flee.
