Bleaching Freckles

Location

“Sun Kisses”

As soon as I started to refer

My freckles as “kisses”

A whole new world opened up for me

In the palm of my hand

Kisses were intimate, precious

Lovable

Devoted

The things that I was taught to hate

Taught to bleach, to get rid

To dispose

Was wrong

How can a world get rid of

Something so beautiful as “Kisses?”

It can't

And neither should I.
