Belonging
The soul yearns for a place to call its home
Beside the hearth of friendship’s warm embrace
Where candor rides the breeze like glitt’ring ash
And jubilation crackles in the flames.
But rare it is to find such hallowed halls,
More hopeless still to hold the blazing light.
Belonging leads to pain, so deep, so wide,
When love burns out ‘pon ending of the night.
So when one stumbles in on faces bright
And sees the glow of welcome in their eyes,
Allow their warmth to saturate the soul.
Hold dear the hearth without fear of the storm.
