Anchors

Anchors, cast iron

claim center and hold her steady,

in the light,

in the dark.

Anchored in the light place

she need not exert.

Warm tendrils caress her,

Pink Jellyfish befriend her,

Seaweed does not touch her feet.

Anchored in the dark place,

she does not fight.

Stagnant water wrinkles

her translucent skin,

the thick chain peels layers from her legs.

These anchors

hold her steady in the waves.

she will never move.
Anchored, she surrenders control.

Light or dark,

the tide will come.

One cannot breathe

if their head

is anchored

underwater.
