American Nightmare

In this great Melting Pot is there really room for more ingredients?
New Life
They want it all
Seeking far and low
To become new creations
Carrying stress and pressure on behind
They look and look until they find
They work so hard to achieve their dreams
They work and work until they succeed
Working day and night with all their might
Why do they do it?

For the American life
Rags to Riches
Subjection to Success
Poverty to Prosperity
Paths paved with gold
Opportunity lined in silver
But is it an attainable reality or a distorted perception?
Overworked and underpaid
Overachieving yet overlooked
Talked about but never listened to
All for one goal
One desire
One aspiration
Is this what they meant by the American Dream?
Or is it all a nightmare?
The American Nightmare
