Listen and obey,
a childhood of conforming,
Confucius still reigns.
Vietnam war ends,
Communism kills many,
refugees homesick.
World War II backlash,
Japanese must be interned,
seen as enemies.
Gold rush, Chinese come,
work the railroads, do laundry,
yet, “You’re not welcome!”
Mom’s mad,
dad stays silent,
won’t speak his mind,
just nods in agreement,
as if everything’s fine.
Deep down it’s disturbing,...
