You taught me about me

You taught me about me about life and everything it holds

Through the dark windy nights and days so cold

You brushed my hair and wiped my nose

While singing a song about my little toes

You held my hand as we crossed the street

It was my first day of school and you couldn’t believe

You kissed my forehead and said goodbye

But I didn’t want you to leave my sight

You said I love you and it’ll be okay

Don’t worry, I’ll see later today

14 years pass and here we are again

Crossing the street as you hold my hand

You look at me with tears in your eyes

Don’t worry Mom, it’ll all be all right

You pull my hand and pull me close

"I promise I’ll never let you go"

You brush my hair and sniffle your nose

Holding back the tears that rose

You kissed my forehead and said goodbye

But I didn’t want you to leave my sight

You taught me about life and everything it holds

I thank you for never letting me go
