words that you hear everyday

they might even be things that you say

because you think it causes the same amount of hurt as saying stupid or lame

but it doesn't, these words come with baggage like fear and shame

sitting on the bus hearing your friends say gay in every other sentence 

and being around people that use the word fag in ways that don't even make sense

words that mean absolutely nothing to them

but to you, they cause a shooting pain in your heart, because they're linked to harassment, abuse, and your life being pulled apart 

you hear dyke as you walk down the hall

a one syllable word, that can make your heart fall

the people who say these words have no idea what they really mean, because for them the pain of these words aren't seen

they don't know that what they're saying can trigger memories of rape, assault, self-harm, and depression 

and when they're said, it really leaves an impression

especially if it's someone you love, and you feel like you can't speak up, because if you do, you have the fear of them finding out who you really are

and not only does it hurt, but it leaves the wort scar

so think before you speak, and know that offensive words are never okay 

because you don't know how deeply you could be affecting someone's day
