Who's Going to Change the World

Let’s go back to times of peace.

Times when women didn’t have to fear walking alone in the dark just to go home,

And children didn’t have to fear their lives while learning how to read and do math,

And the elderly didn’t have to fear that their age would get them into trouble.

We could go a day without people getting robbed and killed.

We could go a day without seeing that people, children, loved ones, are missing around the world.

Times when a movie didn’t cause so much racial uproar.

Tuition didn’t cost an arm and a leg.

But looking back into history, did this time ever exist?

Whatever reality our ancestors lived in wasn’t the truth for someone else.

Somewhere across the world, someone can be so privileged that they don’t know these are everyday struggles for someone.

Or one could be so disadvantaged that these situations are far worse.

While we may know all of this nothing seems to get done.

We try and try for years upon years, but nothing works.

The worse part is,

America’s not even the half of it.

This poem is about:
My country
Our world
