Who you are

Sat, 11/04/2017 - 17:26 -- BetNola

You may be hard sometimes,

But not always are you this way.

You may make me cry and shout,

But still I laugh and smile.

You may weigh my shoulders down,

Burdensome you can be.

Shake my skinny legs right under me,

Disruptive you can be.

I have met your brother,

That tries to imitate you.

He calls himself by your name,

And even moves like you.

When I am called with falsehood,

Endearments of all types.

When I am almost convinced by

Caresses from cunning fingers.

Swift changes,

Anger and mistreatment.

Abusive words,

Marring my reflection.

Sudden promises,

Always broken.

Convincing lies,

Hindering clarity.

Self-loathing,

Leaving me

Unlovable and

Beyond recognition.

But I overcome

, because of you,

When the trust I put in others fails,

I learn to hope again.

When all I do is give and never receive,

I learn to yet be grateful.

When I am deceived time after time,

I remain honest.

When betrayal strikes close and far,

I hold faith.

When I suffer because of the pain,

I heal with prayer.

When jealousy tries to rot me,

I remember peace.

When I give hugs but receive punches,

I learn to forgive.

When the cycle tries again,

I learn to stand up.

I have been taught.

Forgiving is not rekindling,

It is moving on.

Forgetting is not pretending

That history never occurred.

Some say you are all sunshine,

Rainbows after the storm.

That you will never sadden me,

Tears and aches never more.

But you have shown me the truth.

I know you are perfection,

Endless virtues envelope you.

I know you are attainable,

I see your existence everywhere.

A newborn’s smile,

A mother’s prayer,

A reconciliation,

A sincere promise,

A giving heart,

A rectifying hand,

A consoling kiss,

A merciful word,

A spring’s rain,

A flower’s bloom,

A tearful welcome,

A peaceful goodbye.

I see you every day,

Even when I am in the darkness.

I hope to always reach you,

Even with bound hands.

Because you have taught me,

About the real you.

The one that perseveres,

Even when in shadows.

I have learned to recognize you,

Not just in words,

Not just in actions,

But in both, unified.

I know you may cost me pain,

I know I may still cry,

I know it will not be easy,

Yet you are worth it all.

Together we can overcome,

Because you are True Love.
