What I Want To Be

Location

I remember grade one

When the parents asked

"What do you want to be?"

Fireman, princess, baker, happy

And every person knew their purpose

I remember grade five

When the teachers asked

"What do you want to be?"

Lawyer, dancer, singer, happy

And every person knew their purpose

I remember grade nine

When the administrators asked

"What do you want to be?"

Doctor, neurologist, professor, happy

And every person knew their purpose

But now I'm in grade eleven

And next year no one will ask me

"What do you want to be?"

Because by now I've had years to perfect my answer

Baker, singer, professor, neurologist, dancer, fireman, happy

I never knew my purpose

I do not know which job will change my life

I do not know who I want to be

But I do know who I am

And I'm happy
