Uncertainty

A small glimmer dancing over a shoulder

Is the only thing battling this darkness

A heavy load of anticipation

Weighs wearily on my lungs

And strangles the air from my throat

While my heart pounds simultaneously with the drums in my head

BUMBUMBUMBUM

Any sudden movement could move this spark

And, with oxygen, bring it alive into a full flame

Though my hesitation to breathe could smother it just as easily

But I am not the only party involved in this charade

Witholding my breath would do nothing in the presence of theirs

And so I wait with anticipation

Even though I know that fire does not belong in a world so cold and uncaring

It dances before my eyes

No moves are made to keep the flame

And the light goes out

Dimming any hope I had of solving this mystery

And leaving me

Uncertain
