Travelling Across the Grand Abysm

Mon, 08/03/2015 - 23:51 -- ansley

There is a fine line between believing the world is good
and lying to yourself to lull you into a peaceful sleep.

There is a small crack between helping someone out
and allowing a person to walk over your good intentions.

There is a hair line split between what you see
and the façade that people love to hide behind.

There is a tiny gap between “it’s just a cat scratch”
and “I did this to myself last night; I’m bad again.

There is a miniscule rip between a fiery passion
and sleeping in another’s sheets just to feel alive again.

There is a minute breach between a sinner at the cross
and the man throwing the stones, chanting with his brothers.

There is slight rift between a face lined with laughter,
and an expression that has seen too much grief in a single lifetime.

There are chasms, trenches, ravines, craters, and crannies
preventing people from the happiness they so deserve.

None of these holes, though, are enough to stop people from
loving, trusting, and smiling at the darkness, despite the voids.

For that reason, and that reason alone, I say:
everything is marvelously, spectacularly awesome.

Hope will rebuild bridges once burned
To aid in crossing the darkest times.
