Tick Tock

Tick Tock

The clock above our old TV tormented me,

it’s red numbers screaming distress every time they blinked

Where is he?

He left me here, leaving to play down the street.

He wasn’t supposed to.

The blinds crinkled and shifted as I pushed them aside,

looking out once again.

Would he make it back in time?

Mom and Dad were due back.

I heard their car’s rumble in every passing vehicle.

Would I have to tell them?

My tears made my hair stick to my face like glue.

The rumble of Mom and Dad’s car was shaking the house now.

The door opened with a loud creak, like it always does

He was home.
