Stars Are Always Awake
Twinkle Twinkle Little star
Aren’t you tired
You never rest
Your weary eyes must hurt
But do they hurt from
The vacuum sucking all the moisture from you irises
Turning them from vibrant yellows, blues and reds
To black lifeless, colder than average temperatures for you, speckles
Or do they hurt from witnessing
The cries from every child who is rejected the toy they wanted
Or from the ones who wish they had water or a bed
Do they hurt from your furnaces burning hotter as you die slowly
Or is it that our world is heating to the point of no return
Twinkle twinkle little star
Do your eyes hurt from the forming of new elements
Or just watching us over crowd this small planet
How I wonder what you are
You shine brightly at night
But
Your light dims throughout the day
Forgotten with the wind
Only to shine when the darkness creeps in
Almost like the ink from an octopus
Something shrouds everything in black
But you?
No, you shine even when everything is against you
Up above the world so high
Always there reminding us
Even in dark time
Shine like a diamond in the sky
Sparkle for the world
We need you too
Twinkle Twinkle little star
Thank you for shining through the day
For not resting your weary eyes
And watching over us like fretful parents
