Spiritual Feast

In honor of my early morning church seminary class teachers,

 Sister Bruce and Sister Freeby

Bang! Bang!

My alarm clock sings its wordless song,

Today’s performance in perfect time.

Why such an early recital?

Right then I remember- spiritual survival

Seminary class of learning and guidance

Full of upliftment and enrichment

Food for the soul, water for faith

In the early morning.

My natural man tendency to stay curled up

Dissipates in one swift blow

How can I deny great spiritual food

with temporal sleep?

The water of faith to stop dry doubt

is my soul’s constant yearning.

Without further thought I leap from bed

A feast to attend I must swiftly go

The root of motivation is something I know.

In the early morning.
