Sonnet #1

He stands like power incarnate, as Right.

With staff and globe, in light in dark in pride,

He wills and I am moved--refracted light

Through glass, as if my older self had died.

I find I'm shed--by him, by love, by me.

I never sacrificed such things. I'm new.

My will has changed--no longer me but we.

In time we'll see, melted, what hot winds blew.

"Just close your eyes" in silence--feel his breath.

I listen among stars, his heartbeat mine

His kiss--I must be slag--sole death, soul death

In him I find myself, new self--we shine.

I worship with my mouth--his crown is gold

          A king of old--not tyrant--blessed to hold.
