Someone You Might Know

Once
They loved us
Now
We forget the very reason
We thought so

Once
They said they can't live without you
Now
That's what they'd rather do

We think of it as nothing
For our minds are blinded
With the light of them
That doesn't really exist

Once
They were by your side
Now
They are whisked away
Just before your eyes

Somehow they make it work
They make the sunsets on the beaches
And the glimmers of the stars on the still waters
Seem just as beautiful
As the birth of a child

When really
They can't change the
Miracles of sunsets, stars, or a new life
Into something more beautiful
Than what they consider themselves

This poem is about:
Me
My family
