Snowflakes

Crystals of ice hand-crafted by the divine
White as the aura of a newborn babe
Unique, complex, exceptional
Beauty in its most natural form

Delicately falling to the Earth
Evanescent in their nature
For whatever Earth gets,
—it destroys.

Each erased by Earth’s reign over nature
Disappearing into nothingness
As if they never existed
The world becomes one.

Such is the life of a snowflake:
The tumultuous fall from the heavens
Onto the tongue of some innocent child
Or the hard ground on which we walk.
