Sleepless Nights

Sleepless Nights

Naeha Inapanuri

Those nights.

I lay awake

All that comes to mind

Is everything I ever did wrong.

The demons,

Their voices whisper in my ear

Not screaming

Just a quiet, raspy voice

And then there are…

Bugs crawling on my face, arms and legs

I tangle myself in my sheets

Struggling

The feeling of their hairy legs up and down my body

But there are no bugs to be found.

Remembering.

A single phrase said

Ruined the whole day

Comes into mind

My heart clenches

The pain seeps into my fingers

My throat closes up

I can’t breathe

All the bad things in life

Come crashing down on me

I can’t sleep.
