The Skin I’m in
The Skin I’m in
The Skin I’m in doesn’t mean I am covered in sin
Or that I am corrupt from within born into a life of violence and rage.
That because of my skin tone I am an animal uncaged.
The skin I’m in doesn’t confine me to a negative stereotype,
It defines me and strengthens me to reach new heights, it propels me, excels me and pushes me to my highest high
My skin shows not my lowest low, rather shows the true colors of those who don't know.
Caramel, mocha, chocolate girl. Peanut butter, almond swirl.
Descriptions like these covey positive attributes but somehow black comes up when feelings of
anger and hate are infused.
Why not my knowledge and my intelligence, my positive heritage?
Back when we were kings and queens not now when we are barley treated as human beings.
Anger and frustration because the color of my skin?
Do you not understand the magnitude of the person within?
I am more than a big butt and an afro.
I am more than a gangster that sags with my pants low.
I am a person, an awesome one at that.
Why not try getting to know me now that you know the facts?
