Separating Our Paths

Slippery green leaves

turn to a crisp brown

flake.

Leaves fall

like winter snow.

Brittle stems

crack from branches.

Pair of steps crunch

broken leaves

into sluggish dirt.

As each leaf shatters

the farther the steps

separate.

She turns left.

I take a right.

Leaves create nets.

Separating our paths.

As each leaf ages,

years together

fade.

Like a leaf changes

and dies,

a friendship looses

it’s luster.
Leaves left

to nuzzle down

into the dirt.

Steps crush them into the nonexistent

corners of the forest.

Forever lost

never to attach

back to branches

back eachother.
