As I lay awake in bed at night
My secrets haunt me, devil’s delight
Though invisible, they’re plain in sight
Stenciled images in black and white
They scream and wail, unending fight
For freedom from their burial site
My body stays but my soul it leaves
It bobs and weaves through memories
My past unveiled, innocence grieves
Stains on white linen, sheets and sleeves
Locks and chains as one perceives
Often attract crooked ones and thieves
The keys to locks my soul retrieves
As secrets flow into open air
Black and white images stenciled there
They swirl above, and moan despair
The truth of which they’re now aware
Is suddenly far too much to bear
So they disperse, again prepare
Because in war all is fair
