One Breath

My sweet escape -

My escape from the blows, the pain,

All of it,

In the form of a cloud

With a sweet, alluring scent

That drowns my conscience,

Inhibitions,

Common sense -

It sings to me of a place

Where my mind is whole again,

Where the world is a peaceful place

Of emerald leaves and rainbow crystals,

Where nothing can go wrong.

My bruises fade to the depths of my mind

As I take that first deep breath

And let go.

Let it all go.

Somewhere is a faint scream,

Dulled by the transparent promises

I choose to hear instead.

Is it me?

My scream?

How can it be?

My world is veiled, transformed

From flawed to flawless,

And all it took was

One

Simple

Breath.
